It is with great sadness

July 7th, 2016. Hastings MN. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our long time friend, board member, former president, unrelenting baseball fan and all around great man, Doug Weimer.  During the remainder of the 2016 season, a moment of silence will be observed for Doug prior to the playing of the National Anthem.

With the shock of Doug's passing, we have not been able to put to paper ideas to properly honor a man that has given so much of his time, energy, love and financial support to this great organization. Please watch this space for information for a future event to honor Doug the best we can.

Visitation is 5-7pm after the Hawks play the Miesville Mudhens on 7/17 with a service to follow at 7pm. All are invited to attend.

A message from our current President:

July 7th was a Sad day for Hastings Baseball. We were informed that Hawks Vice President and our friend Doug Weimer passed away this morning.

The last thing he said to his best friend was "I'm going to play baseball now."

Doug Weimer gave all he could to Amateur / Town Ball. He wanted so desperately to see it succeed for generations to come so families could see a great game up close and personal, in its raw, beautiful form. Guys that play for the love of the game, not the big money.

2-3 years ago, we started the crazy venture of building a press box. His dream for Veterans park. Not long after, he looked me in the eyes and told me, With all the delays and hiccups we had, he was not going to live to see that dream become a reality. I told him BS, he's going to not only see it get built, but be able to see a game from it. He did, I remember the look on his face, his eyes swell up with pride.
Thank you Doug Weimer for passing your love of the game on to so many others.

Fighting Fish Swim to Vets

May 18th, 2016 - Hastings - The River Falls Fighting Fish were sent home with the tails between their fins when the Hawks scored their final 3 runs in the 7th to invoke the 10 run rule, winning 11-1. #28 Eric Weber hooked his first win of the season with an impressive outing. Weber allowed only 1 run while striking out 3 and walking only 1 in 5 innings. #27 Ben Bundschu took over in relief and gave a solid performance in the final 2 innings to keep the Fish at 1 run for the game. Twitter was clamouring for #6 Mike Schlottman to get the closing role before the Hawks pulled the Catch and Release on River Falls. "I was told to warm up by Matson" Schlottman said as he laughed about the Twitterverse calling for him to play. "Shawn told me I was going in for the 9th if needed." the Hastings High School JV Coach quipped.

The strong pitching performance was not the only bright spot of the night. "The offense was just there tonight" Manager Shawn Matson said about the lively bats. "We needed it after the last game." referring to the prior 9-2 loss to Red Wing. Newly signed Sam Skoyen (#14) went 2 for 2 at the plate plus a walk with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. #17 Jordan Jeske and #11 Beau Jernberg both his 2 for 4, Jeske scoring 3 runs and each adding an RBI to their stat sheet.

Up next is the Hampton Cardinals in the first HOME CCVL game of the Hawks season. Sunday May 22nd at 2:00pm, Veterans Park.

GAME REPLAY HERE

Veterans Park is ready!

May 6th, 2016 - Hastings - With the assistance of the City of Hastings Parks Department, we have successfully completed some repairs and upgrades to Veteran's Park.

Some of these changes are not so visible such as moving all the sprinkler control boxes out of the playing field. The city also power rolled the entire infield and plans to do it again this summer

The major change to the park this year is the addition of dirt base paths, a rebuild of both bullpens and the cleaning up of the grass edges.

Special Guest to throw out first pitch of the season!

April 10th, 2016. Hastings MN - The Hawks Board has been kicking around ideas for people to throw out the first pitch at different games for a few seasons. Ideas have run the gamut from local business people, local people that have accomplished key things for the community, kids from local teams, regional celebrities and so on.

We thought it would be cool and fun to get a regional personality for a game, but HOW do you do it? We can't afford to pay for an appearance, we don't really know of any people with connections to call in any favors. We don't want to look like crazy creepers and beg on social media, so what do we do?

Well, we said how about we just ask? What is the worst thing that can happen? They say no? Last week, Bruce did just that, he ASKED.

The Hawks are pleased to announce, for the Game on May 7th, 5pm, John Bonnes (pronounced similar to Bonus) will throw out the first pitch of the season as the Hawks take on the Ellsworth Hubbers!

John is from theGleeman and the Geek Podcast with Aaron Gleeman
on twitter@twinsgeek
He also operates
www.twinsdaily.com
www.wildextra.com
www.vikingsjournal.com
www.northerpitch.com
and is a weekly Wednesday guest on KFAN'S Power Trip morning show!

We are super excited to work with John and have him and his lovely wife come visit our little part of heaven known as Veterans Park!

Raiders Play at Vets!

April 9th, 2016. Hastings MN - Cold, cold, cold. The cold has been a pain all week, especially for the Hastings Raider Baseball team. The Raiders, our High School brothers, had a game scheduled Monday 4/4 with Park, but it was postponed due to the cold. The game was rescheduled for Saturday 4/9. The issue rescheduling was a planned rebuild of the pitchers mound and plate area at Grossman Field, the home field of the Raiders.

Coach Pagel emailed the city and the Hawks to see if Veteran's Park was available and ready. It was available, but definitely NOT ready. The Hawks first game is not until May 7th, so we planned our clean-up day on April 23rd. FYI, IT IS STILL PLANNED FOR THEN. Thats ok coach, we got ya! Thanks to a coordinated effort between City Parks Operations and Maintenance Supervisor Cory Likes, his staff and Bruce Karnick, Shawn Matson, Mike Schlottman and Kyle Benson of the Hawks, the field was made playable in the short, wet, cold 5 days they had to prep it. "Well, look at it this way." new Hawks Board Member Kyle Benson quipped, "We have a huge jumpstart on the clean up day!"

But what was the outcome of the game?

PARK CLEANUP DAY PLANNED!

March 9th, 2016. Hastings MN. The Hawks were happy to welcome Cindy Lyon and Wayne Erickson from HYAA to join us at our March Board Meeting. We Originally planned to discuss 2 upcoming tournaments in June and that quickly turned to how to cooperate even more at Veterans Park. After a bunch of laughs and serious discussion, we agreed on a Veterans Park Clean UP day!

The city has approved the clean up day, now we just need the weather to cooperate. We plan on gathering as many folks as possible on Saturday April 23rd, 9am - 2pm (or earlier if we finish fast enough)

If you are interested in joining us, please contact president@hastingshawks.com
