HASTINGS, MN 6/1/13 - When can we stop saying how chilly the temp was and focus on the game? Anyone have a direct line to Mother Nature? 57 degree game time temp with blustery winds in excess of 10mph all night as the Hawks defeat the Railcats and move to 2-2 in the CCVL, 7-2-1 overall.

HAWKS VS LYONS PUB WARRIORS 6 - 6

HASTINGS, MN 5/29/13 - The 5-1 Lyons Pub Warriors came to town on Wednesday 5/29/13 and Mother Nature was not going to let either team win this one. The threat of rain all day had the game in question. The game started with out issue and it was a beautiful night for Baseball. #18 - Spencer Diedrich was on the hill for Hastings and pitched 8 innings. Diedrich struck out 5, only walked 1 but allowed 5 runs on 13 hits. #10 - Tony Kaiser took over in the 9th, went 2 innings with 1 run on 3 hits.

The Warriors offense got started early and stayed pretty consistent, leading the game 6-2 as the Hawks bats came alive in the bottom of the ninth. Here's the recap of the exciting 9th.
#8 - Drew Flack (3 for 4, 1BB) flew out to LF.
#16 - Jose Velez (1 for 5) singled to left center.
#1 - Wes Hedlund (1 for 3, 1BB) TRIPLED to left center, scoring Velez (Score now 3-6).

#17 - Jordan Jeske hits a hard grounder up the middle for a single, scoring both runners, TIE GAME!
#4 - Jordy Horsch - Enters the game for #11 - Beau Jernberg hits a line drive back to the pitcher and the pitcher quickly got the ball to first for the double play ending the inning.

The Hawks had a chance to finish the game off in the 10th as severe weather was approaching. Hastings had runners on the corners, #13 - Greg Campbel in for #30 - Drew Benson, the winning run at 3rd and #8 Drew Flack at first, 1 out when #16 - Jose Velez came to the plate.

The first pitch to Velez was a ball. Second pitch... a ball. Third Pitch, Velez swings, a nice hard cut, ball is hit well, a hard line drive at the short stop, HE MAKES THE GRAB! NO! NO! NO!   Flack took off running on the hit, assuming the ball would make it to the outfield, and was too far off the base to make it back in time, DOUBLE PLAY!?!?

Just as the players were coming off the field, Mother Nature expressed her displeasure with the last play, tossed down some lightning and rain so the umpire said "I'm out" and called the game. The Hawks move to 6-2-1 (1-2 CCVL) on the season.

COMMERCIALS ARE ALMOST DONE!

Yes, even we amateur teams need to pay bills. Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, we are able to! Part of the agreement of advertising with us in our game day program meant they get mention over the loud speaker system at each home game. Due to all the craziness that happens at the scorers table between the actual scoring of the game, queuing up bumper / walk up music, tracking the game for the web broadcasts and all the people that come by with questions, it was just too much to properly advertise for our sponsors. Thanks to computerizing, we won't need to read scripts too often. All inning commercials are pre-recorded to enhance your game day experience. Want to preview what the recordings are OR hear about something you liked and couldn't write it down fast enough? Listen to the recordings on our sponsor page. (Of course, their info IS in the game day program.)

Initial Test of new software goes 'OK'

Scoring the first game on the iPad was a challenge. Some things happen so fast and when you are trying to announce, queue up music and read commercials some things have to give, add to the fact that I couldn't feel my fingers after the first inning, it made for some mistakes on the digital version of the games box score. Until we get all the kinks worked out, our iscore game cast is only going to be for entertainment purposes and not official stats. Overall, I think it went OK and once I get more practice with the software, we will be golden.

5/4/13 Sat Vets Park CLEANUP DAY!
*** CANCELLED ***

We had to cancel this event due to Mother Nature creating bi-polar weather conditions in Hastings.

The Hawks along with Cory Likes of the City of Hastings Parks Department have chosen Saturday May 4th as the "Spring Cleaning Day" for Veterans Park.

Anyone is welcome to join!

We will be doing some basic landscaping, planting of flowers and other plants, general clean up of the facility, possibly painting and anything else we need to do to get the field ready for our season opener one week later.

If you'd like to join, simply watch here for an official time or email bruce@mavericmusic.com , state your interest in helping out and I will email you the details once we have them worked out.

Press Box - Update

Yes, we are still pushing hard for an actual press box at Vets park. The Hawks vision of Vets has always been one of having an actual Ballpark not just a ball field. Many conversations and meetings have taken place this off season geared toward improving the fan experience at Vets. One of those ways is to get the scoring / announcers table off the first base fence and above the stands.

The Hawks have secured enough funds through private donations as well as in kind labor donations to pay 100% for a new press box, it's now a matter of getting it approved by the city.

The city of Hastings has had both the City Administrator and the Parks Director move on in their careers at almost the same time, so the delay in approval has been simply because the city has had to find the right people to fill those spots.

Councilman Tony Alongi has been a great liaison between the Hawks and the City Council since the discussions started at the end of the season. Our proposal for a press box was even used as a scenario during the interview process when the city was looking for a new parks director.

Stay tuned for further updates on the press box and once approved, we may even post the design here!

In the mean time, you can help! Talk to your respective council member and tell them just how important making Vets park in to an even better place to play ball is to you and that you want the press box!

Game Day program

Proud to say that the game day program is now complete. We have many AMAZING sponsors this year. It was a lot of hard work to get this put together for our fans and sponsors but we think it will be worth it.

25 Days until the season opener!

I can't believe it's just 25 days until the season opens for the Hawks and there is STILL SNOW ON THE GROUND! Dare I mention the nasty reports of more yet to come? Ok Mother Nature, it's time to let summer get here since you obviously want to skip spring this year!

I was out doing some measuring for the proposed press box April 8th and this is what the field looked like prior to the unwanted snow.
Vet's Park between snows

Positive vibes for a quick melt and an end to the weather madness!

MLB OPENING DAY!

Best of Luck and Good skill to the 2013 MN Twins!

Here we are 58 days until opening day!

The Twins start in 18 days and just 40 days after that, it's

HAWKS BASEBALL TIME BABY!!!!

The last few months for me as promotions director have been pretty intense. Between the website, getting to know the business leaders in town, working with them on advertising for the game day program and exploring ways to make Hawks Baseball a Full, Fun and Family Experience has been a blast!  Our board of directors has been amazing coming up with new ways to get that game day experience the best it can be for our community.

Speaking of getting out in the community. Without the tremendous support from our community, the Hastings Hawks would not exist. Thank you so much to these wonderful sponsors! Make sure you tell them "Thanks for supporting Hastings Hawks Baseball" when you visit them! Get the current list of our sponsors here.

Here is a peek behind the curtain of things that are in the works. We are working with the city, volunteer organizations, private donors and the parks department to make these changes happen. These items are ones that benefit the entire Hastings baseball community. HYAA, LEGION / VFW Teams, The Hawks, Schools, etc.

Ball Park Improvements:
Press Box - Behind the bleachers. For safety of the scoring / PA equipment and to clean up the sight lines for the fans.
New Scoreboard - We could use some financial help for this wonderful asset to our ballpark.
Landscaping - Flower boxes and shrubbery all over the Baseball park.

Events:
Armed Forces Day - Many military displays, Climbing Wall, Presentation of Colors. Come out and than a veteran and have a great evening at the Ballpark.
5th Inning Pizza Pitch - Every game have a chance to win a Green Mill Gift Card!

I know the Board and Team are very excited to get the season started. We hope you are too!

An update to the website

2013 is upon us and how better to start the new year with a new look! This has been a project I have been working on since the end of the season and after test upon test upon test and review upon review and bugging the other board members and friends for feedback, I am happy to present the new Hastings Hawks website!

I would call it 90% done.

- We are still deciding some things with the concessions stand.
- Obviously the roster is not set yet. (it's a little early, but many are returning!)
- The schedule will change for sure because of some changes to the league, but
   it's very close.

If you notice anything weird or missing, PLEASE send me a message so I can fix it. Feedback is also welcome! Just CLICK HERE.

How can you help the Hawks?

That is a GREAT question!

Check out the SPONSORSHIP link above. You can advertise your business with us, donate if you wish to do so and volunteer to work the concessions stand.

Another great way to help is to tell the city how important a quality outdoor baseball experience is to the city. Let them know you support the Hawks effort to make improvements to Veterans Park for all of Hastings to enjoy.

Tell your friends to come to a game! Professional baseball gets expensive for a family. Hawks games are not only family friendly, but they do not gouge your wallet!

Thanks for visiting HastingsHawks.com! Please visit us often to keep up to date on all things Hawks related!

Non-League home games are free, but we do "pass the hat".

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year from the Hastings Hawks!

The 2012 Baseball season has been over for just over 5 months. 5 MONTHS! Can you believe it? Wait, that means. . . Our first game is only 4 months away! 16 weeks. If only we could afford a spring training like the Twins and have pitchers / catchers report in 4 weeks.

Lot's of great stuff has been going on behind the scenes to make the Hawks experience the best it can be. From theme nights to sponsored give-aways, fundraising to proposed stadium upgrades, the board of directors has been working hard all winter long!

We are actively working with the City to build a new Press Box and make line of sight improvements from the stands. Our fundraising efforts will be geared toward a press box above and behind the bleachers so we can eliminate the table that partially blocks the view down the first base line. Our next effort will be to replace the chain link fence with a sport netting. It's more durable, quieter and easier to see through. How can you help? Urge your city representative to work with us and help provide the funding of upgrades to the city owned park.

Sponsorship Opportunities!

The 2012 Season may be over, but that just means it's now time to get ready for 2013! If you are interested in being a sponsor or advertising with the hawks, don't be shy! Contact any of our board members for additional information on how you can help the Hawks in 2013!

Of course, a HUGE thank you to our 2012 sponsors!

2012 Season Ends

August 1st, 2012

The Hawks season came to an end today with their second loss in the CCVL's Section 1B, double elimination playoffs. Hastings first loss in the playoffs came at the bats of the Dundas Dukes, the eventual Section 1B playoff champs, on Sunday July 29th.

The afternoon game game was one of three playoff games around the league that found the 1, 2 and 3 seeds losing. The Hawks took an early lead when Deryk Marks drove in Jordy Horsche for the lone Hawks run. Dundas scored twice in the 3rd and added one more in the 4th to win the game 3-1

Playoff game 2 against the Redwing Aces turn out to be an odd one for sure. The weather looked like it was going to completely shut down the game from the start, but held off until about the 5th inning. Both starting pitchers threw well over 120 pitches before being replaced, weather played a big factor on the defensive side as well. I for one thought the game would have been delayed due to the rain, but that's why I am not an umpire. They kept it going and by the 8th inning the raid was ending. The final score, Redwing 8, Hawks 4.

Thanks for a fun season everyone, looking forward to next year!

Bruce - The rookie PA guy!

Volunteers are need for the 2013 concession stand, fundraising and anthem singers. Contact us if you are interested.
